ENDGAME TIPS FOR THE BEGINNER

In the diagram we have a typical pawn and king vs king endgame. With black to move first it will be a draw but with white to move, white wins. The red square is used to determine the result. Always count the number of squares from the pawn to the egde of the chessboard and count the same number of squares to the left. If the enemy king can penetrate this square the game will be drawn if not the white side will win.The folowing tips will help the beginner to get more results when the ending arrives.
